Troubleshooting Problems Opening RCH Files
Issues Opening RCH Files
SWAT Isn't There
When trying to open your RCH file, you get the error "Can't Open RCH File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to SWAT missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your RCH with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have SWAT installed, and you know of another program to open your RCH file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Obsolete Version of SWAT
In other instances, your SWAT Reach Output File file version may not be supported by your version of SWAT. You will need to download a newer version of SWAT if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your SWAT Reach Output File file was created by a different (newer) version of SWAT than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the RCH file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right SWAT version on your computer can cause problems opening RCH files.
Associated Difficulties Loading RCH Files
Assuming you have the right SWAT version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening RCH files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading RCH files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid RCH file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the RCH file description inside the Registry
- SWAT or another RCH application experienced a flawed installation
- Your RCH can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- RCH file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Drivers associated with RCH software need to be updated
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your SWAT Reach Output File file successfully
