Troubleshoot LLB Files
Common Problems Opening LLB Files
LabVIEW Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open LLB Files" when trying to open your LLB. Customarily, this means that LabVIEW is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the LLB file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When another LLB application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Obsolete Version of LabVIEW
Sometimes your installed version of LabVIEW won't support your LabVIEW Library File file. Visit the National Instruments website to download (or purchase) the latest version of LabVIEW. Your LabVIEW Library File file was probably created by a newer release of LabVIEW than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your LLB, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Conclusion: The majority of LLB file opening issues are due to not having the correct LabVIEW version installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening LLBs
You can still experience errors opening LLB files even with the latest version of LabVIEW installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening LLB files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:
- LLB file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry LLB description
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the LLB format
- File corruption affecting your LLB file
- The LLB is infected with a virus
- Hardware associated with LLB has outdated drivers
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the LabVIEW Library File file
