Troubleshoot BTS Files
Issues Opening BTS Files
BitTorrent Sync Not Present
Double-clicking your BTS file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open BTS File". Customarily, this means that BitTorrent Sync is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your BTS with BitTorrent Sync, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have BitTorrent Sync installed, and you know of another program to open your BTS file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated BitTorrent Sync
It is possible that your version of BitTorrent Sync isn't able to open your BitTorrent Sync Unfinished Download File file due to incompatibility. Visit the BitTorrent website to download (or purchase) the latest version of BitTorrent Sync. Most of the time your BitTorrent Sync Unfinished Download File file was created by a newer BitTorrent Sync than what you have installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of BTS file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: Not having the right BitTorrent Sync version on your computer can cause problems opening BTS files.
Associated Difficulties Loading BTS Files
You can still experience errors opening BTS files even with the latest version of BitTorrent Sync installed on your PC. If you are still having problems opening BTS files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- File references in the Windows Registry for BTS are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the BTS file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of BitTorrent Sync or other BTS-related program
- Your BTS can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The BTS is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your BTS file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your BitTorrent Sync Unfinished Download File file
