Understanding LIF Issues
Troubles Opening LIF Files
LEGO Digital Designer is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your LIF file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open LIF Files". Usually, this is because you do not have LEGO Digital Designer for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your LIF with LEGO Digital Designer, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens LIF files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated LEGO Digital Designer
Your LEGO Digital Designer Assets File file is incompatible with LEGO Digital Designer because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of LEGO Digital Designer installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Investigate your LIF file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening LIF files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading LIF Files
Assuming you have the right LEGO Digital Designer version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening LIF files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening LIF files. These issues include:

- LEGO Digital Designer or another LIF application experienced a flawed installation
- LIF file corruption
- Malware-tainted LIF file can't be opened
