HDD Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening HDD Files
Parallels Desktop for Mac Isn't There
Double-clicking your HDD file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open HDD File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Parallels Desktop for Mac for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your HDD with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another HDD application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Incorrect Parallels Desktop for Mac Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Parallels Desktop Hard Disk File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of Parallels Desktop for Mac if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Parallels Desktop Hard Disk File file version that was created by a newer version of Parallels Desktop for Mac than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your HDD file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of HDD file opening issues are due to not having the correct Parallels Desktop for Mac version installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading HDD Files
You can still experience errors opening HDD files even with the latest version of Parallels Desktop for Mac installed on your PC. If you are still having problems opening HDD files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Windows Registry HDD file paths that are incorrect
- Corruption of the HDD file description inside the Registry
- Parallels Desktop for Mac or another HDD application experienced a flawed installation
- Your HDD can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The HDD is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to HDDs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Parallels Desktop Hard Disk File file
