Troubleshoot PRP Files
Typical PRP Opening Challenges
IBM Rational Rose development software is Not Installed
Double-clicking your PRP file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open PRP File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have IBM Rational Rose development software for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your PRP because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens PRP files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
IBM Rational Rose development software Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of IBM Rational Rose development software won't support your Rational Model Properties File file. Visit the IBM website to download (or purchase) the latest version of IBM Rational Rose development software. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of PRP file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the PRP file opening problems relate to not having the right version of IBM Rational Rose development software installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading PRP Files
Assuming you have the right IBM Rational Rose development software version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening PRP files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading PRP files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- File references in the Windows Registry for PRP are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry PRP description
- IBM Rational Rose development software or another PRP application experienced a flawed installation
- PRP file corruption
- Your PRP has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your PRP file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Rational Model Properties File file
