Understanding BZW Issues
Common Problems Opening BZW Files
BZFlag Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open BZW Files" when trying to open your BZW. Usually, this is because you do not have BZFlag for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your BZW with BZFlag, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens BZW files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
BZFlag Requires Update
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of BZFlag installed that's incompatible with your BZFlag World File type. If you've got the wrong version of BZFlag installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your BZFlag World File file was created by a newer BZFlag than what you have installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your BZW file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the BZW file opening problems relate to not having the right version of BZFlag installed.
Other Causes of BZW File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening BZW files even with the latest version of BZFlag installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening BZWs. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry BZW file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry BZW description
- BZFlag or another BZW application experienced a flawed installation
- File corruption affecting your BZW file
- Your BZW has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to BZWs has device driver corruption
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open BZFlag World File files
