Understanding LIA Issues
Common Problems Opening LIA Files
Missing P-CAD
When you double-click your LIA file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to P-CAD missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your LIA with P-CAD, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens LIA files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of P-CAD
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a P-CAD Schematics Library file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version P-CAD (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your P-CAD Schematics Library file was probably created by a newer release of P-CAD than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: If you right-click on your LIA file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening LIA files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional LIA Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of P-CAD will resolve your issue. Other LIA opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:
- File references in the Windows Registry for LIA are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the LIA file in the Windows registry
- Corrupt install of P-CAD or other LIA-related program
- Your LIA can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your LIA is infected with malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your LIA file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the P-CAD Schematics Library file
