Understanding PF3 Issues
Common PF3 Opening Problems
SmartWare Not Present
When trying to open your PF3 file, you get the error "Can't Open PF3 File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have SmartWare for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your PF3 with SmartWare, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When another PF3 application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Incorrect SmartWare Version
It is possible that your version of SmartWare isn't able to open your SmartWare Text Project file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of SmartWare from SmartWare Corporation is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a SmartWare Text Project file version that was created by a newer version of SmartWare than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of PF3 file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the PF3 file opening problems relate to not having the right version of SmartWare installed.
Other PF3 File Issues
You can still experience errors opening PF3 files even with the latest version of SmartWare installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading PF3 files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry PF3 file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry PF3 description
- SmartWare or another PF3 application experienced a flawed installation
- Your PF3 can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your PF3 has adversely impacted by malware
- PF3-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the SmartWare Text Project file
