Understanding D67 Issues
Issues Opening D67 Files
VICE Isn't There
When trying to open your D67 file, you get the error "Can't Open D67 File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have VICE for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your D67 with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have VICE installed, and you know of another program to open your D67 file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of VICE is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of VICE installed that's incompatible with your VICE Disk Image File type. Download the latest VICE version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your VICE Disk Image File file was created by a newer version of VICE than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your D67, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the D67 file opening problems relate to not having the right version of VICE installed.
Other Causes of D67 File Opening Problems
Errors opening VICE Disk Image File files can still occur even with the latest VICE software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening D67 files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- File references in the Windows Registry for D67 are wrong
- Corruption of the D67 file description inside the Registry
- Partial installation of VICE that did not fully complete
- D67 file corruption
- Your D67 is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with D67 has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the VICE Disk Image File format
