Sources of DWM Problems
Common Problems Opening DWM Files
Digital Works Not Present
You attempt to load your DWM file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The DWM File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Digital Works for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your DWM with Digital Works, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another DWM-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated Digital Works
Your Digital Works Circuit Project file is incompatible with Digital Works because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of Digital Works installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your Digital Works Circuit Project file was probably created by a newer release of Digital Works than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your DWM file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the DWM file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Digital Works installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading DWM Files
Even with the correct version of Digital Works installed, you can still experience difficulties opening DWMs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening DWMs. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid DWM file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry DWM description
- Digital Works or another DWM application experienced a flawed installation
- File corruption affecting your DWM file
- Past or present virus infection has affected your DWM
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your DWM file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Digital Works Circuit Project file successfully
