Troubleshooting Problems Opening KMD Files
Common KMD Opening Problems
ABstat Removed
When trying to open your KMD file, you get the error "Can't Open KMD File Type". Customarily, this means that ABstat is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your KMD with ABstat, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your KMD, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated ABstat
Sometimes your installed version of ABstat won't support your ABSTAT For Windows Batch File file. If you've got the wrong version of ABstat installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your ABSTAT For Windows Batch File file was created by a different (newer) version of ABstat than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the KMD file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Regardless, most of the KMD file opening problems relate to not having the right version of ABstat installed.
Additional KMD Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of ABstat will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening KMD files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- File references in the Windows Registry for KMD are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the KMD file in the Windows registry
- Defective install of a KMD program, such as ABstat
- File corruption affecting your KMD file
- KMD file integrity has been compromised by malware
- KMD-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your ABSTAT For Windows Batch File file
