Understanding WXM Issues
Common WXM Opening Problems
wxMaxima Removed
When you double-click your WXM file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to wxMaxima missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your WXM with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your WXM, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
wxMaxima is Out-of-Date
Your wxMaxima Batch File file is incompatible with wxMaxima because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of wxMaxima if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of WXM file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening WXM files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other Causes of WXM File Opening Problems
Assuming you have the right wxMaxima version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening WXM files. Other WXM opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry WXM file paths that are incorrect
- Unintentional removal of the description of the WXM file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the WXM format
- WXM file corruption
- Your WXM has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with WXM has outdated drivers
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open wxMaxima Batch File files
