Understanding APR Issues
   Issues Opening APR Files
ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop Not Present
When trying to open your APR file, you get the error "Can't Open APR File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your APR file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another APR-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop Requires Update
Your ArcView Project File file is incompatible with ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your ArcView Project File file was created by a newer ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop than what you have installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the APR file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop version on your computer can cause problems opening APR files.
   Other APR File Issues
Assuming you have the right ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening APR files. If you are still having problems opening APR files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
  - Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for APR
- Accidental deletion of the description of the APR file in the Windows registry
- Defective install of a APR program, such as ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop
- Your APR can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your APR is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with APR has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your ArcView Project File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
