Understanding SLDX Issues
Common SLDX Opening Problems
Microsoft PowerPoint Disappeared
If you attempt to load your SLDX file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open SLDX Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft PowerPoint installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SLDX file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When another SLDX application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft PowerPoint
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Microsoft PowerPoint Open XML Slide file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft PowerPoint if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Microsoft PowerPoint Open XML Slide file was created by a newer Microsoft PowerPoint than what you have installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your SLDX file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the SLDX file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft PowerPoint installed.
Other Causes of SLDX File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of Microsoft PowerPoint installed, you can still experience difficulties opening SLDXs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening SLDXs. Issues that aren't software-related:
- SLDX file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry SLDX description
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the SLDX format
- Something has caused file corruption of your SLDX
- Your SLDX has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to SLDXs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Microsoft PowerPoint Open XML Slide file
