Troubleshooting Problems Opening OSF Files
   Issues Opening OSF Files
 Descent 3 Disappeared
When trying to open your OSF file, you get the error "Can't Open OSF File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Descent 3 missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your OSF with Descent 3, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Descent 3 installed, and you know of another program to open your OSF file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
    Outdated Descent 3
Sometimes your installed version of Descent 3 won't support your Descent 3 Sound Data file. If you've got the wrong version of Descent 3 installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Descent 3 Sound Data file was created by a different (newer) version of Descent 3 than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your OSF file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Descent 3 version on your computer can cause problems opening OSF files.
   Other OSF File Opening Causes
Errors opening Descent 3 Sound Data files can still occur even with the latest Descent 3 software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening OSF files. These issues include:
  - File references in the Windows Registry for OSF are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry OSF description
- Corrupt install of Descent 3 or other OSF-related program
- OSF file corruption
- The OSF is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to OSFs has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Descent 3 Sound Data format
