Understanding XPM Issues
   Common XPM Opening Problems
 GIMP Isn't There
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open XPM Files" when trying to open your XPM. Customarily, this means that GIMP is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your XPM, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
    GIMP Requires Update
In other instances, your X11 Pixmap Graphic file version may not be supported by your version of GIMP. If you've got the wrong version of GIMP installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your X11 Pixmap Graphic file was created by a newer GIMP than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your XPM, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: Not having the right GIMP version on your computer can cause problems opening XPM files.
   Additional XPM Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of GIMP will resolve your issue. If you're still experiencing problems opening XPM files, there could be other computer problems. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
  - Windows Registry XPM file paths that are incorrect
- The XPM file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Partial installation of GIMP that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your XPM
