NPT File Complications
Common NPT Opening Problems
Portfolio is Not Installed
You attempt to load your NPT file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The NPT File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Portfolio for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your NPT file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another NPT-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of Portfolio is Installed
It is possible that your version of Portfolio isn't able to open your Portfolio NetPublish Pre-cursor Template File file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version Portfolio (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Most of the time your Portfolio NetPublish Pre-cursor Template File file was created by a newer Portfolio than what you have installed.
Tip: Investigate your NPT file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of NPT file opening issues are due to not having the correct Portfolio version installed.
Additional NPT Opening Issues
Errors opening Portfolio NetPublish Pre-cursor Template File files can still occur even with the latest Portfolio software installed on your computer. Other NPT opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for NPT
- Deletion of the NPT file description from the Registry by mistake
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the NPT format
- NPT file corruption
- The NPT is infected with a virus
- Hardware associated with NPT has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your Portfolio NetPublish Pre-cursor Template File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
