EMD Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening EMD Files
Awave Studio Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open EMD Files" when trying to open your EMD. If so, it typically means that you don't have Awave Studio installed for %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your EMD file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect Awave Studio Version
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Awave Studio installed that's incompatible with your ABT Extended Module File type. If you do not have the proper version Awave Studio (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. The primary cause of this problem is that your ABT Extended Module File file was created by a different (newer) version of Awave Studio than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the EMD file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Conclusion: The majority of EMD file opening issues are due to not having the correct Awave Studio version installed.
Other Causes of EMD File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of Awave Studio installed, you can still experience difficulties opening EMDs. If you are still having problems opening EMD files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry EMD file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry EMD description
- Partial installation of Awave Studio that did not fully complete
- Your EMD can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The EMD is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your EMD file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the ABT Extended Module File format
