Troubleshoot ESK Files
Typical ESK Opening Challenges
eSignal Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open ESK Files" when trying to open your ESK. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because eSignal isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your ESK because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you don't have eSignal installed, and you know of another program to open your ESK file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
eSignal Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of eSignal won't support your eSignal Scan File file. You will need to download a newer version of eSignal if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your eSignal Scan File file was created by a newer eSignal than what you have installed.
Tip: Investigate your ESK file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Regardless, most of the ESK file opening problems relate to not having the right version of eSignal installed.
Other Causes of ESK File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of eSignal installed, you can still experience difficulties opening ESKs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading ESK files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- ESK file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Corruption of the ESK file description inside the Registry
- Partial installation of eSignal that did not fully complete
- Your ESK can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your ESK is infected with malware
- Drivers associated with ESK software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your eSignal Scan File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
