Troubleshoot ASL Files
Issues Opening ASL Files
Adobe Photoshop Not Present
When trying to open your ASL file, you get the error "Can't Open ASL File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Adobe Photoshop for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your ASL file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you don't have Adobe Photoshop installed, and you know of another program to open your ASL file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Adobe Photoshop
Sometimes your installed version of Adobe Photoshop won't support your Adobe Photoshop Style file. Download the latest Adobe Photoshop version from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your Adobe Photoshop Style file was created by a newer Adobe Photoshop than what you have installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your ASL file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the ASL file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Adobe Photoshop installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening ASLs
Errors opening Adobe Photoshop Style files can still occur even with the latest Adobe Photoshop software installed on your computer. Other ASL opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- ASL file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the ASL file inside the Windows Registry
- Defective install of a ASL program, such as Adobe Photoshop
- File corruption affecting your ASL file
- Malware-tainted ASL file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your ASL file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Adobe Photoshop Style format
