Troubles Opening BAF Files
Missing Baldur's Gate
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open BAF Files" when trying to open your BAF. When this happens, it is commonly due to Baldur's Gate missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your BAF file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When another BAF application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Baldur's Gate Requires Update
In other instances, your BioWare Infinity Game Engine Script file version may not be supported by your version of Baldur's Gate. Visit the BioWare website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Baldur's Gate. Most of the time your BioWare Infinity Game Engine Script file was created by a newer Baldur's Gate than what you have installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the BAF file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening BAF files are due to having the wrong version of Baldur's Gate installed.
Other Causes of BAF File Opening Problems
Errors opening BioWare Infinity Game Engine Script files can still occur even with the latest Baldur's Gate software installed on your computer. If you're still experiencing problems opening BAF files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for BAF
- Accidental deletion of the description of the BAF file in the Windows registry
- Invalid installation of a BAF-associated program (eg. Baldur's Gate)
- The BAF itself is corrupted
- Your BAF has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your BAF file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your BioWare Infinity Game Engine Script file successfully
