Understanding BAH Issues
Frequent BAH Opening Issues
Baldur's Gate Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open BAH Files" when trying to open your BAH. Customarily, this means that Baldur's Gate is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: Another BAH-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Baldur's Gate is Out-of-Date
Your BioWare Infinity Game Engine Data file is incompatible with Baldur's Gate because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Baldur's Gate if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your BioWare Infinity Game Engine Data file was created by a newer version of Baldur's Gate than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your BAH file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening BAH files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading BAH Files
Although you might already have Baldur's Gate or another BAH-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening BioWare Infinity Game Engine Data files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening BAHs. These issues include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for BAH are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the BAH file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of Baldur's Gate or other BAH-related program
- Something has caused file corruption of your BAH
- Past or present virus infection has affected your BAH
- Device drivers for BAH-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the BioWare Infinity Game Engine Data file
