Common PASS Opening Problems
Apple Xcode Disappeared
When trying to open your PASS file, you get the error "Can't Open PASS File Type". Customarily, this means that Apple Xcode is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your PASS file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another PASS-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated Apple Xcode
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Xcode Wallet Data file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Apple Xcode (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a Xcode Wallet Data file version that was created by a newer version of Apple Xcode than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your PASS file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Apple Xcode version on your computer can cause problems opening PASS files.
Other Causes of PASS File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Apple Xcode will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening PASSs. These issues include:
- PASS file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Accidental deletion of the description of the PASS file in the Windows registry
- Apple Xcode or another PASS application experienced a flawed installation
- The PASS itself is corrupted
- Your PASS has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to PASSs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Xcode Wallet Data file
