NOT File Complications
Common NOT Opening Problems
Notation Musician Disappeared
When trying to open your NOT file, you get the error "Can't Open NOT File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Notation Musician missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When another NOT application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Incorrect Notation Musician Version
It is possible that your version of Notation Musician isn't able to open your Notation File file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of Notation Musician from Notation Software is recommended. Your Notation File file was probably created by a newer release of Notation Musician than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your NOT, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: Not having the right Notation Musician version on your computer can cause problems opening NOT files.
More Causes of Problems Opening NOTs
Although you might already have Notation Musician or another NOT-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Notation File files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening NOT files. Additional factors include:
- Invalid NOT file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- The NOT file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the NOT format
- File corruption affecting your NOT file
- The NOT is infected with a virus
- Drivers associated with NOT software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your Notation File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
