Troubleshooting Problems Opening BKZ Files
Issues Opening BKZ Files
NCH FileFort Not Present
Double-clicking your BKZ file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open BKZ File". Customarily, this means that NCH FileFort is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your BKZ file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another BKZ-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of NCH FileFort
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of NCH FileFort installed that's incompatible with your FileFort Backup File type. If you do not have the proper version NCH FileFort (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a FileFort Backup File file version that was created by a newer version of NCH FileFort than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of BKZ file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening BKZ files are due to having the incorrect version of NCH FileFort installed on your computer.
Other Causes of BKZ File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of NCH FileFort will resolve your issue. Other BKZ opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:
- Invalid BKZ file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the BKZ file description from the Registry by mistake
- NCH FileFort or another BKZ application experienced a flawed installation
- File corruption affecting your BKZ file
- Your BKZ has adversely impacted by malware
- BKZ-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your FileFort Backup File file
